The Gospel of John pt. 9 - Rick Cochran

This sermon centers on John the Baptist’s powerful declaration in John 1:29–34 that Jesus is  both the “Lamb of God” and the “Son of God,” revealing His true identity and mission. It explains  that while John may have known Jesus personally, it was the visible sign of the Holy Spirit  descending like a dove that confirmed Jesus as the promised Messiah. The message then  unpacks why Jesus is called a “Lamb,” connecting it to the Old Testament Passover, where the  blood of a sacrificed lamb protected Israel from death—foreshadowing Christ’s ultimate  sacrifice. Just as the lamb’s blood once kept death out, Jesus’ sacrifice brings life and removes  sin for the whole world. The sermon also highlights the misunderstanding of the crowd on Palm  Sunday, who praised Jesus as a political king while missing that He came as a sacrificial Savior.  Ultimately, it calls listeners not just to see Jesus, but to truly recognize Him—understanding that  His path to glory comes through the cross, reminding us that there is no crown without  sacrifice.
